Happy Teachers Day – 5 Sept. 2022, Every year on September 5, World Teachers’ Day is celebrated to recognize and celebrate teachers throughout the world. Our appreciation for teachers has grown over the past year and a half. Thousands of children across the globe have benefited from their efforts to ensure their education. It is therefore well deserved that they are given a special day to honor them.
A brief history of World Teachers Day
Since 1994, UNESCO has observed World Teacher’s Day to emphasize the importance of teachers and their concerns. This day commemorates UNESCO’s 1996 recommendation to ensure that all children have access to a fundamental right to education.
1996 marked the adoption of these recommendations. They focused on the rights and responsibilities of teachers as well as their achievements in the field of teaching as well as their preparations and education.
Aside from recruitment and employment issues, the recommendations also covered the teaching and learning conditions and conditions of employment. Along with these, along with the Recommendation Concerning the Status of Higher-Education Teaching Personnel that was issued in 1997, there was a great deal of emphasis placed upon higher education.
There is no doubt that governments from all over the world have taken steps to recognize the value that teachers hold in ensuring quality equations for all, and they have recognized these guidelines as well.
Teacher appreciation day: why teachers deserve it.
Education is a vital function played by teachers. Students’ formative years are crucial to their success. Course work is only one aspect of education. Teachers have a greater responsibility to create an environment that fosters holistic growth in students. An inspiring teacher can inspire students to learn positive values, help them foster a sense of self-worth, and support them in contributing to a wholesome future for themselves, their families, and the world around them.
Many great teachers have been produced in India over the years. Among others, in India it is also celebrated as ‘Teachers Day’ on the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
As a result of her efforts in setting up schools for the Dalit community, Savitribai Phule is remembered for this. It should also be noted that several great educators from all corners of the country are widely celebrated, such as Swami Vivekanand and A.P.J Abdul Kalam.
During COVID, there is teaching and learning.
Teaching and learning have been significantly altered by the deadly COVID-19 pandemic. Mobile devices have become the new classrooms as education shifts online. It is possible to count the number of times Smile Foundation teachers have gone the extra mile. Several examples are given here, including one that illustrates the point.
As a Mathematics teacher at a Mission Education Center operated by Smile Foundation in Hyderabad, Geetha admits the subject is a challenge. Teaching online became more difficult during the pandemic. Smile Foundation’s continuous support and collected efforts by other teachers enabled us to use various online modes to teach children and ultimately shift to offline classes.
A theme has been chosen for this year
The theme of the 2021 World Teachers Day has been chosen to reflect the impact the global lockdown has had on educators and teachers, given the impact the global lockdown has had on both. Here, the focus is on what the pandemic means for the profession and how it is affecting it. In addition, the focus is also on the effective policy response and the implementation of actions needed to empower educators and to help them reach their full potential.
